MIPS_230a Bias Effects

IOC-MIPS_230a     10470C
Title:   Effect of Bias Levels and Integration Times on Sensitivity

Objective:   To optimize instrument sensitivity.

Description:   A standard AOT will be executed at various bias levels and integration times to find the
optimum settings for in-orbit operation given the realities of cosmic-ray effects.
This is not intended to determine the ultimate sensitivity of the instrument, but it should
allow us to select a standard set of bias levels and integration times for routine observing.
We should pick a standard star to observe with each array, which means that we'll have to
optimize each array separately. With three arrays and perhaps 4 different bias
levels, that implies 12 photometry AOTs.

Place in Schedule:   The telescope must be cold enough to measure standard stars at 70 and 160 microns.
The photometry AOT must be checked out and working properly.

Required Conditions:   The pointing accuracy and stability have to be enough to measure a standard star in a
short integration time - pointing of 10", stability of 0.6" in 3 seconds.

Resources:
  duration (best estimate)       85 minutes
  real time downlink (Y / N)       n
special post event actions (Y / N)       data must be analyzed

Outcome:
description         generates a series of SUR exposures
can proceed in parallel with other activity         no
must outcome be confirmed before next event / test /activity         no
method of confirmation (sensor TLM, data analysis, etc.)         analysis
estimate of data turn around if required for confirmation
  number of DCEs         144

Unique or included in planned uplink or downlink/analysis tool         should use planned AOTs
