MIPS_310a Off-axis Glints

IOC-MIPS_310a     10630C
Title:   MIPS Off-axis Glints

Objective:   Search for scattered light and glints from stars out of the field-of-view.
This tests the sky observing paths rather than contamination of MIPS darks (see othe scattered light proposal for that).

Description:
including flow / state diagram     Using an extremely bright source like IRC+10216 or equivalent, take 4 scans
beginning ~5" outside the field of view and extending to 3 degrees away.
Use the medium scan mode (40-second per point).

Place in Schedule:   After aperture door is opened.
(relative to water shed events)

Required Conditions:   Telescope must be fully cold at 5.5K.
Basic MIPS functionality must have been confirmed.

Resources:

  duration (best estimate)         15 hrs
  real time downlink (Y / N)         no
special post event actions (Y / N)         no

Outcome:
description     Any operational constraints about bright objects just outside the field-of-view will be understood.
can proceed in parallel with other activity       no, requires dedicated pointing.
must outcome be confirmed before next event / test /activity         no
method of confirmation (sensor TLM, data analysis, etc.)         data analysis
estimate of data turn around if required for confirmation         N/A

Unique or included in planned AOT?
          Uses the scan map AOT.

Contingency Plan:
"What if..."         If test fails it should be repeated.
