Galaxy Formation & Evolution - Extragalactic Background - Cosmology - Multiwavelength Deep Surveys - Space Infrared - ISO - SIRTF - MIPS

I'm an astrophysicist studying the evolution of the galaxies. In more details, I'm a Research Associate at the Steward Observatory of the University of Arizona in Tucson since november 2000. Before, I was completing my PhD Thesis in France, at the Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale of the Université Paris-Sud Orsay in France. In Fall 2003, I'll be tenured assistant professor at the Université Paris-Sud and IAS in France. I'm a specialist in the study of galaxies in the infrared. I worked on one of the deepest surveys ever made at the end of the XXth century, in the far infrared. We used the Infrared Space Observatory and the ISOPHOT instrument. Now, I'm preparing the guaranteed time (GTO) cosmological surveys in the infrared of the next generation, using SIRTF and the MIPS instrument (as well as IRAC and IRS). I'm also involved in modeling and simulating galaxy evolution. In addition to the research activities, I'm teaching Physics at University, and am involved in or initiate activities of popularization of astrophysics, like giving public lectures, going to an elementary school, participating in the life of a few associations, or writing articles in the press (and even recently being on TV !). As you might see on this web site, I also like to travel, hike, take pictures, cook, listen to baroque music, watch the starry nights, and many other things. Je suis astrophysicien et étudie l'évolution des galaxies. Précisément, je suis Research Associate au Steward Observatory, à l'University of Arizona à Tucson depuis novembre 2000. Avant celà, j'ai fait ma thèse de doctorat en France, à l'Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale à l'Université Paris-Sud Orsay. A la rentrée 2003, je serai Maître de Conférences à l'Université Paris-Sud Orsay et à l'IAS. Je suis spécialisé dans l'étude des galaxies infrarouges. J'ai participé à l'un des relevés les plus profonds jamais effectués au XXè siècle dans l'infrarouge lointain. Pour celà, nous avons utilisé l'Observatoire Spatial Infrarouge ISO et l'instrument ISOPHOT. Je prépare maintenant les relevés profonds du temps garanti (GTO) de la prochaine génération, qui seront menés avec SIRTF et l'instrument MIPS (ainsi qu'IRAC et IRS). En plus des activités de recherche, j'enseigne la Physique à l'Université, et je participe à ou mène des activités de vulgaristation de l'astrophysique, en donnant des conférences publiques, en me rendant dans les écoles, en participant à la vie d'associations, ou encore en écrivant des articles dans la presse (et même recemment en passant à la télevision !). Comme vous pourrez le voir sur ce site, j'aime également voyager, marcher, photographier, cuisiner, écouter de la musique baroque, regarder les étoiles, et bien d'autres choses encore.
