Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-100 Title: 24um first light

System: MIPS Principal: cengelbracht Deputy: jmuzerolle
Objective:
To determine if the 24um array is responding to
illumination through the telescope, and to verify
that basic instrument properties (e.g. throughput,
image quality, CSMM operation) are as expected.

Description:
Place a bright MIPS flux standard in the 24um FOV.
Execute 2 cycles each of the 24um photometry
small-field and large-field
AOT using 3s exposures. The target should be one
of our 3 focus-check standards in the CVZ, e.g.,
the AIV star HD 158460 at 17:25:41.35 ,
+60:02:54.2, V magnitude 5.64.

Day:   28.3486111111124 Suggested Order:   D100

Must be preceded by these activities (list by CAID):   MIPS-015

Place in Schedule:   After dust cover off

Priority:   Critical

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 40 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   No     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 30 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 30 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration:

Go/No Go criteria: 24um array data acquisition must be functional.

Resources

Duration:   13 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 38 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): photometry AOR

List Analysis tools required (downlink):   standard data analysis tools like IRAF or IDL

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   12 hours

Description: Initial detection of star plus confirmation of scan mirror motion. A simple plot of point-source position vs. scan mirror angle will tell us whether the scan mirror gain is as expected. Simple photometry will tell us whether the counts measured are as expected. Radial profile plots of the stellar image will tell us if the image quality is roughly as expected.

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   Data analysis

Success criteria: The sky must be unambiguously detected by the array and the scan mirror must be moving.

Contingency plan:  Repeat, changing S/C, scan mirror offsets. Use a different source if necessary.
