Objective

Demonstrate that MIPS arrays respond to stimulators

Description

The CSMM is positioned at the 24 µm dark position, the stim is turned on, and data is taken. The process is repeated for all four of the 24 µm stim states: FLAT-LOW, FLAT-HIGH, FLOOD-LOW, FLOOD-HIGH. Housekeeping data regarding the stim voltages and/or currents will be monitored to ensure that the stims actually trigger.

Data Collected

For each stim setting, three DCEs are collected with stim on and stim off. All exposures are SUR 3 s. Twenty-four total 24 µm DCEs are taken.

Housekeeping telemetry is necessary for monitoring of stim currents during exposures. It is possible that all the necessary parameters will be in the MIPL headers. This task should be repeated if CE side B is used.

Output and Deliverable Products

The output of this test will be identification of working and non-working stims.

Data Analysis

The data analysis for this task can be limited to statistics on each DCE using fv, IRAF, or IDL. No calibration should be necessary. The image statistics will be associated with the stimulator current, etc. keywords in an ascii table to acertain whether the detector saw light when the stim was commanded on.

Actions Following Analysis

Confirm that detector detects light from stim. If no light detected when telemetry indicates stim on, flag stim as inoperative. If light detected, but telemetry shows stim off, track telemetry error.

Failure Modes and Responses

Most likely failure mode of task is saturation of the 24 µm array during the test. If this occurs for the "stim on" exposures, the test should be repeated after a patchable constant change to dim the stim. However, since the purpose of the test is to acertain that the stims work, saturation due to overly bright stims is not as much of a problem as a saturating background. If the array is saturated with or without the stims, the test must be repeated at a lower telescope temperature.
