Objective

The relative throughputs of all the modes of MIPS will be measured. Modify this to reflect that we should use the same sources for this as we use for other cross-calibrations - i.e., with IRS.

Description

The calibration of MIPS will be based on measurements of stars using the Photometry AOT. This task confirms that the Scan Map and Total Power AOTs have the same throughput as the Photometry AOT and determines the relative throughputs between the SED and Photometry AOTs. Three different sources will be observed in all modes to ensure each array (24, 70, & 160 micron) will get a good observation. Two of the three sources should be point sources and the third an extend source to further check the relative behaviors of point and extended sources between modes. Ideally, all the sources would be observable (detected and not saturated) on all three arrays, but this might not be possible. All the observations will be done with 10 MIPS second exposures. For the 24um and 160um arrays, the modes observed will be Photometry, Scan Map, and Total Power AOTs. For the 70um array, the modes observed will be Photometry, Scan Map, Total Power, and SED AOTs. The throughputs between submodes internal to an AOT are assumed to be checked in the validation of the AOT. For example, the throughputs between the different exposures times associated with different scan rates in the Scan Map AOT.

    Failure Modes and Responses

    A.N-C. needs to think carefully about this, but has not yet (Jan 21'03). Since all observing modes are involved, there are multiple options on what can go wrong and should be fixed. Probably it will be during the commissioning of the AORs that we will know already how different things can be.
