Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-155 Title: 24um Latent Images and Saturated Sources

System: MIPS Principal: dlp Deputy: jmuzerolle
Objective:
Understand the consequences of observing very
bright sources with MIPS.

Description:
Observations corresponding to 50%, 100%, and 500%
of full well will be taken. These saturation
levels will be achieved through a combination of
source selection and exposure times. This
activity should be done with both point sources
and
extended saturating sources, but
calculations are based on doing it only with point
sources.

At each of the three signal levels:
(1) Observe a source using a small field dither
pattern (1 cycle) and 10 second exposures.
(2) Execute a flush cycle (reset,bias boost,more
resets, anneal?)

Day:   76.7013888888905 Suggested Order:   R200

Must be preceded by these activities (list by CAID):   MIPS-320, MIPS-345

Place in Schedule:   After aperture cover is opened, SUR mode validated, CSMM validated, and MIPS has reached normal operating temperature.

Priority:   Desired

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 33 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   No     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 60 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 60 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration: standard

Go/No Go criteria: CE power must be available. CSMM must work. MIPS must be at normal operating temperature.

Resources

Duration:   50 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 40 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): Uses photometry AOT and IERs for anneals and flush cycles

List Analysis tools required (downlink):   Standard MIPS pipeline. Image analysis and photometry package

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   48 hours

Description: After this test the consequences of observing very bright sources will be understood.

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   data analysis

Success criteria: Behavior of 24 micron latent images are characterized under mission conditions.

Contingency plan:  If unusually large effects are observed, more detailed study of anneal/flush cycles will be needed.

Additional Comments:
Required Conditions: MIPS apertures must have been located. Detector aliveness and electronics checkouts must have been performed. The background must be less than 2e-7 W/m^2/sr. or T<31K Generates 42 DCEs (84 if done on extended source also)
