Objective

To update the adopted flux calibration of the SED-mode given updates to the slit illumination correction (MIPS-299).

Description

The proper SED-mode flux calibration must be updated every time the slit illumination correction (MIPS-299) is modified by additional executions of MIPS-299. That is, existing flux calibration observations must be re-reduced using the updated slit illumination correction since the spectrum of the sky background used to determine the illumination correction will be different each time MIPS-299 is executed (assuming that the spacecraft will be pointed at different bright 70 µm backgrounds for each occurrence of the task). First, the separate illumination corrections must be combined (averaged). Using the averaged results from MIPS-299, the sensitivity function applicable for SED-mode will then be updated.

Output and Deliverable Products

The primary product of this task is the determination of the SED sensitivity function as determined using the averaged, normalized slit illumination correction. The average slit illumination correction adopted for use in MIPS DAT and SSC Pipeline needs to be matched with the sensitivity function determined by using this slit illumination correction.

Data Analysis

Data analysis for this task is straightforward.
  1. Update the slit illumination correction after each execution of MIPS-299.
  2. Process SED-mode observations of flux calibration standard stars using the updated slit illumination correction and determine the sensitivity function.
