Task Outcome Summary

Abstract

The goal of this metatask is to track the starting points of the 24um data ramps and to make sure that we are using the optimal Voffset value for the 24um array. The criteria are to provide the largest possible dynamic range without ever starting any of the data ramps at the bottom rail of the A-D converter. The preflight nominal Voffset DAC setting was 0x6B. We ran the optimization task MIPS-125 during campaign D1 and decided that 0x6B was perhaps a little too close to the lower rail of the A-D, so we decided to switch to a Voffset setting of 0x6C. This change has not yet been implemented.

Analysis

In task MIPS-125, five RAW mode DCEs were collected at each of 6 Voffset settings. For each DCE, the median and minimum ramp starting points were determined. The results are presented below. In task MIPS-990, we collect 10 4s DCEs in RAW mode, perform a thermal anneal, and then collect 10 more 4s RAW DCEs. This task is performed at the end of each of the 24um campaigns. The ramp starting points for each of these DCEs is presented below. We also present the raw data from task MIPS-110 in campaign D2.

Results

The following are the median and minimum starting points for the Voffset = 0x6B and 0x6C DCEs collected in the task MIPS-125. In the first DCE of each observation, the first two frames are zeros, the third frame generally has a pedestal offset, and the data ramps under these dark conditions have negative slopes. As a consequence, the most negative frame was the 8th and final frame of the 4s DCE. For all other DCEs, there is no pedestal offset and the slopes are always positive.

Conclusions

The shift in offset level in campaign C1 relative to campaign D indicates that the offset level is shifted downward by 2300 DN in these extremely bright light levels. Comparison of campaigns D1, D2, and E shows very good stability from one campaign to the next, with variations in ramp starting points that are no larger than the variation from DCE to DCE within a given observation. The before and after anneal comparisons in these three campaigns indicate a downward shift of 100-150 DN following a thermal anneal. This does not appear to be a thermal effect. The MIPS-110 data from campaign D2, which was collected shortly after the thermal anneal in MIPS-900, shows a similar offset to what is observed after the thermal anneal in MIPS-990. As a result, it appears that there is upward drift in the ramp starting points with time (and with cosmic ray exposure). It is noteworthy that the upward drift is larger in the campaigns which ran longer (D1=2h, D2=4.25h, E=3.7h). With the limited data available so far, the drift seems to be about 40 DN/hour. This report will be updated periodically throughout IOC/SV.
