Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-210 Title: 70 & 160 um latent images & saturation

System: MIPS Principal: hdole Deputy: alberto
Objective:
Characterize the behavior of very bright
(saturated) sources on the 70 and 160 micron
arrays.

Description:
Point sources of which are 50%, 100% and 500% of
the full will will be observed. Each point
source will be observed using both photometry and
scan map AOTs. Three sources are
needed for each of the 2 Germanium arrays (70, and
160 microns).

The goal of this task is to check the behavior of
point sources as a function of how hard they
saturate. The 50% well point sources are taken as
a baseline for the 100% and 500% point
sources.

Outline of the Task:

At 70um (for each of the three 70um sources = 3
different backgrounds):
Construct a medium mode scan map including both
forward and reverse scans.
2 scan legs at medium mode scan rate (forward and
backward)
1 cycle of 10-second exposures using the Photmetry
AOT at 70um.

At 160um (for each of the three 160um sources = 3
different backgrounds):
Construct a medium mode scan map including both
forward and reverse scans.
2 scan legs at medium mode scan rate (forward and
backward)
1 cycle of 10-second exposures using the Photmetry
AOT at 160um.

Day:   77.4402777777868 Suggested Order:   R600

Must be preceded by these activities (list by CAID):   MIPS-246, MIPS-322, MIPS-324, MIPS-327

Place in Schedule:   This test should be done near the end of IOC as it is a pretty high level validation of the instrument.

Priority:   Desired

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 6 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   No     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 1.4 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 1 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration: Standard

Go/No Go criteria: Array temperatures must be stable, detectors must be functioning nominally

Resources

Duration:   307 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 1261 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): Photometry & Scan Map AOTs

List Analysis tools required (downlink):   Standard MIPS data reduction pipeline

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   72 hours

Description: Run data through pipeline. Examine the behavior of pixels after they have been saturated. This behavior will include both saturation and latent effects. The 50% point source will act as the control for the latent behavior.

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   data analysis

Success criteria: Good enough data to measure effects of saturation downstream from the saturation event.

Contingency plan:  We might be able to investigate the behavior of saturation using regular mission data, but it will probably be difficult.
