Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-240 Title: 24 um spectral leak check

System: MIPS Principal: mrieke Deputy: krs
Objective:
To check the MIPS filters for short-wavelength
leaks

Description:
Place a bright star in the FOV of the 24um array.
Scan the mirror in small steps (1/4 pixel) for a
totalof 80 steps to obtain the 1D PSF.
Repeat at different S/C offset for redundancy and
repeat using a much colder object (eg. an
asteroid)

Day:   42.4361111111139 Suggested Order:   G400

Must be preceded by these activities (list by CAID):   MIPS-121, MIPS-320

Place in Schedule:   After dust cover off

Priority:   Critical

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 33 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   Yes     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 10 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 10 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration: Pointing at a star

Go/No Go criteria: Scan mirror and array readouts must be functional.

Resources

Duration:   50 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 130 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): Specialized IET

List Analysis tools required (downlink):   data analysis of the PSF power spectrum to derive the high-frequency components

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   48 hours

Description: Scans of the 1-D PSF at 24um filter taken with cold and hot sources

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   Data analysis

Success criteria: Obtained well-exposed data

Contingency plan:  Repeat with different star, modify integration time.

Additional Comments:
Must be careful in choosing stars as saturation must be avoided. Extended sources must also be avoided.
