Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-265 Title: Confusion Limits Determination

System: MIPS Principal: mrieke Deputy:
Objective:
Deep observations at 24,70 and 160 microns
to
estimate the MIPS confusion limits at three
galactic latitudes (low background, high, and
intermediate).

Description:
Acquire normal scan observations at 24, 70
and 160
microns of three 5 arcmin X 1 degree
fields
at, or near the galactic pole, the equator, and
an
intermediate position.

Three scan map AORs executed at three
different
pointings:
Slow scan rate, 1 degree leg length, 5"
cross-scan
steps and 4 scan legs at low background
Medium rate with 2 legs at intermediate
background
levels
Fast rate with 4 legs at high background

Day:   86.2493055555606 Suggested Order:   W400

Must be preceded by these activities (list by CAID):   MIPS-327, MIPS-328, MIPS-329

Place in Schedule:   After CTA/instrument cool down and all other instrument testing is complete. For 160 um performance, the backgrd radiance must be less than 5.2E-13 W/cm2/sr (< 6 K). Can be concurrent with other AOT/instrument tests.

Priority:   Desired

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 6.5 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   No     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 5 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 5 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration: Point at 3 different sky locations

Go/No Go criteria: Scan map AOT must be functional

Resources

Duration:   228 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 300 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): Standard pipeline system and standard data analysis tools required. MIPS scan AOT required for uplink.

List Analysis tools required (downlink):

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   48 hours

Description: Fully calibrated MIPS scan data products in three bands at levels that will permit estimate of confusion levels

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   Data analysis

Success criteria: Measure fluxes at levels in agreement with pre-launch estimates

Contingency plan:  Revisit pipeline and/or AOT design depending on the nature of a failure.

Additional Comments:
Required Conditions: CTA and instrument at nominal operating temperature for the 160 um band (< 6 K). PCS performance needs to be nominal in pointing, offsetting, and scan stability.
