Objective

Verify scientific validity of MIPS Scan pipeline. Use a bright protostellar extended object. Caveat: We have changed launch date 3 times, we are working in getting a target that be observed to accomplish the technical goals of this task.

Description

Acquire normal scan map observations of protostellar extended object over a field 1.0 degree square field. MEDIUM scan rate, 60 arcminute square field, 5 arcmin leg offsets, ONE cycle.

Data Collected

For a 1/2 x 1 degree square map, 3 cycles at medium scan rate, one could expect

CommandDCE 1818 // Number of DCEs commanded
TotalDCE 5454 // Number of DCEs in database

A standard scan map AOR, medium scan rate, 6 legs 0f 0.5 degrees, cross-scan 148 arcsec.

Task Dependencies

Calibration Dependencies

Standard Pipeline calibration is needed to perform a detailed comparison.

Output and Deliverable Products

  • nearly 6000 DCES, a map of 0.5 x 1 degree

    Data Analysis

This a regular scan map, from the point of view of operation.

    Software Requirements

    Actions Following Analysis

Confirm that MIPS can scan map protostellar regions, with bright IR sources, and to obtain calibrated artifact free images.

    Failure Modes and Responses

Contingency plan: Revisit pipeline and/or AOT design depending on the nature of failure.
