Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-295 Title: Scan Map of a large galaxy

System: MIPS Principal: cengelbracht Deputy: kgordon, wlatter
Objective:
This IOC task is intended to verify the scientific
validity of the MIPS Scan pipeline products and
test a long AOR. This task contains many
overlapping scan legs and will provide an early
test of the performance of our calibration
procedures on a large, extended object.

Description:
Acqiure a normal scan map of IC 342. Use a single
map with 15 30' scan legs overlapped by 148", at
the medium scan rate.

Day:   86.4562500000029 Suggested Order:   W800

Must be preceded by these activities (list by CAID):   MIPS-327

Place in Schedule:   This test should be done near the end of IOC as it is a very high level validation of the instrument. Plus, the target is only visible towards the end of IOC.

Priority:   Desired

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   No     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 3 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 0.4 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration: Standard

Go/No Go criteria: Array temperatures must be stable, detectors must be functioning nominally

Resources

Duration:   144 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 2112 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): Scan Map AOT

List Analysis tools required (downlink):   Standard MIPS data reduction pipeline and mosaicing tools.

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   168 hours

Description: Run data through pipeline. Mosaic all the images into three (24, 70, & 160 micron) large 0.25 degree square maps.

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   Data analysis

Success criteria: Nice maps without many detector artifacts at the individual image boundarys.

Contingency plan:  Revisit pipeline and/or AOT design depending on the nature of failure.
