Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-298 Title: SED Response Verification

System: MIPS Principal: psmith Deputy:
Objective:
To verify if the response is tracked adequately
with
undispersed light as opposed to light that has
traversed the SED-mode optical path.

Description:
The response of the 70um array is measured
by using
flat field stimulator and compared to the
response measured
using undispersed light from the flood
stimulator. This
will test if significant wavelength-dependent
differences
are seen.

The test will consist of a number (10) of
alternating
flood stim and flat field stim flashes. Since
CSMM position for the flat field stim allows
undispersed sky background on to the array,
the
telescope should be pointed toward a region
of
low backgroud. The observation should start
with
a flood (undispersed) stim followed by a flat
field
(dispersed) stim. We should repeat these
exposures
9 time and then finish the entire sequence
with a
flood
stim. The flat field stim should be set to its
brightest
to improve statistics without saturating.
Depending on
how brightness of the dispersed flat field stim,
we may
need several 3 or 10s DCEs to better the
statistics.

Resources

Duration:   10 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 10 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): Special IER that alternates between flood and flat field stims.

List Analysis tools required (downlink):   IRAF or IDL

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   48 hours

Description: Flood and flat field stims will both be median filtered and examined for differences in the pixel-to-pixel response.

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   Data analysis

Success criteria: S/N high enough for the flat field stim exposures in order to make a meaningful pixel-to-pixel comparison to the flood stim exposures.

Contingency plan:
