Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-307 Title: 160 um IC - detailed, Scan AOR

System: MIPS Principal: aalonso Deputy: dfrayer
Objective:
Acquire the data needed to produce
illumination-correction frames for the 160um
array. Enough DCEs (~30) are taken at each
scan-mirror deflection angle (33 positions) to
allow us to produce a flat for each scan-mirror
position. If these individual flats are judged to
be indistinguishable they can be combined to
create a single flat. Perform the necessary data
reduction (median-filtering) needed to create the
flatfield frames.

This activity is a companion to the ROUTINE Scan
and Photometry AOR illumination-correction
activity. These activities will allow us to
determine the relative efficiency and quality of
flatfields created using scan and photometry AORs.

Description:
A 5-degree long x 3 legs scan map is taken using
the fast-scan AOT in a region of sky chosen to
avoid bright point-sources. The map will require
about 65.9 minutes of observing time.

It will be necessary to check the quality of the
160um IC as when the data are taken in fast mode
a filled map is not produced in a single pass. If
this introduces artifacts, it may be necessary to
repeat the IC at medium scan rate.

Day:   68.3298611111168 Suggested Order:   Q100

Must be preceded by these activities (list by CAID):   MIPS-329, MIPS-916, MIPS-919

Place in Schedule:   Telescope temperature stable and appropiate for 160um observations. MIPS temperature stable. CSMM operational.

Priority:   Necessary

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 6.5 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   No     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 3 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 1 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration: standard

Go/No Go criteria: CSMM, CE, and stims and detectors must be operational, instrument and telescopetemperatures must be stable

Resources

Duration:   66 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 810.1 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): Scan AOR

List Analysis tools required (downlink):   standard pipeline

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   24 hours

Description: Illumination corrections for the 160 um array at all scan-mirror positions visited during scan operations.

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   data analysis

Success criteria: ICs display no noticeable source residuals, have good S/N. Calibrated FPS and AOT validation data sets have source signal independent of position in image.

Contingency plan:  Can use flats from ground-test data as a start; Must obtain good sky flats during IOC, though.
