CAID: MIPS-317 | Title: Off-axis Glints | |
System: MIPS | Principal: dlp | Deputy: mrieke |
Objective: | Search for scattered light and glints from stars out of the field-of-view. This tests the sky observing paths rather than contamination of MIPS darks (see other scattered light proposal for that). |
Description: | Using an extremely bright source like IRC+10216 or equivalent, take 4 scans beginning ~5" outside the field of view and extending to 3 degrees away. Use the medium scan mode (40-second per point). REVISION - use photometry AORs with cluster pointings to populate the positions around the periphery of the arrays. This task will be performed with 24um only. We will make a sparse map over a 3 degree by 3 degree region with pointings separated by 10 arcminutes. Additional pointings will be done near the nominal FOV and in suspicious regions identified by N. Gautier as possible glint sites from screw heads, etc. |
