Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-317 Title: Off-axis Glints

System: MIPS Principal: dlp Deputy: mrieke
Objective:
Search for scattered light and glints from stars
out of the field-of-view.
This tests the sky observing paths rather than
contamination of MIPS darks (see other scattered
light proposal for that).

Description:
Using an extremely bright source like IRC+10216 or
equivalent, take 4 scans beginning ~5"
outside the field of view and extending to 3
degrees away. Use the medium scan mode
(40-second per point).
REVISION - use photometry AORs with cluster
pointings to populate the positions around the
periphery of the arrays. This task will be
performed with 24um only. We will make a sparse
map over a 3 degree by 3 degree region with
pointings separated by 10 arcminutes. Additional
pointings will be done near the nominal FOV and in
suspicious regions identified by N. Gautier
as possible glint sites from screw heads, etc.

Day:   68.9673611111139 Suggested Order:   Q500

Must be preceded by these activities (list by CAID):   MIPS-355

Place in Schedule:   After aperture door is opened, telescope cold, CSMM operational, minimal photometry validation, cluster validation

Priority:   Necessary

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 6.5 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   No     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 5 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 5 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration: standard

Go/No Go criteria: MIPS operational, telescope cold, CSMM performing as expected

Resources

Duration:   900 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 400 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): Uses the photometry AOT with cluster offset pointings.

List Analysis tools required (downlink):   standard MIPS pipeline; image analysis package

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   48 hours

Description: Any operational constraints about bright objects just outside the field-of-view will be understood.

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   data analysis

Success criteria: Received all data; data unsaturated, and background low enough to evaluate faint glints. Pointing ok.

Contingency plan:  If test fails it should be repeated.
