Objective
Demonstrate that MIPS 24 µm scan map AOT obtains data as expected
in a rudimentary fashion.
Description
Execute MIPS scan map AOT for a single set of parameter selections. For
the preliminary validation, only fast scan is used.
Data Collected
This task is implemented by commanding two 1-degree-long fast scans offset
by 0 arcsec in the cross-scan direction. The exposures are 3 s individually
for a total of 30 sec total integration time. The target is M47, a star
cluster with several members bright enough for 24 µm photospheric
detection.

Array Data Desired:
24 µm
Data Reformatting Option:
-
NONE
1 FITS file per DCE per array
-
NORMAL
1 FITS file per AOR per array.
Special Instructions:
Task Dependencies
Calibration Dependencies
-
CSMM parameters known
-
distortion correction applied
Output and Deliverable Products
This task will confirm that the combination of PCS slew rates and mirror
parameters used in the MIPS Scan Map AOT places the targets in the expected
positions on the array. The output product for this task will be altered
versions of the IPP files MIPS scan map.
Data Analysis
The data analysis for this task involves comparing the positions of the
stellar image on the array to the positions expected based on the input
CSMM parameters and slew rate.
Software Requirements
-
DAT and/or SSC BCD/Post-BCD pipeline
-
ENHANCER for production of photometric image
-
ATV - IDL image viewer
-
IDP3 or other centroiding and photometry package
-
"fv" - Goddard "lheasoft" package
-
plotting package (SM, IRAF, IDL)
-
Chad's CSMM perl script
Actions Following Analysis
The MIPS scan map configuration IPPs will be updated to place imaged in
the desired pixel locations on the array.
Failure Modes and Responses
Presuming that data is fully obtained, one failure mode of this task is
unsuitability of the target field. However, a more likely failure mode
is a mismatch between the slew speed and scan mirror rate. Some iteration
of this task or a preceding task is likely, possibly
at a lower scan speed. A contingency IER is planned for reversing the
mirror direction.
