Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-342 Title: Ultimate Scattered Light Levels #3

System: MIPS Principal: mrieke Deputy: jkeene
Objective:
This is the 160um portion of the test. See
MIPS-340 for complete description.

Description:
Part 1: Diffuse light scattered into MIPS
Point at a high background location (Galactic
Plane preferably).
Perform a thermal anneal on the 160um array.
Move the scan mirror to the 160um dark
position.
Take 30 10-second integrations
Part 2: Scattered light from stars adjacent to
the
field of view.
Point at a bright star which would saturate if
viewed directly.
Take 10-second integrations while stepping
the
star
by 45" along a long side of the 160um
array. Take 3 exposures at each step position.
Take 10-second integrations while stepping
the
star
by 45" along short side of the 160um array.
Take three exposures at each step position.
Repeat the above steps on the other two
sides of
the 160um array.

Day:   86.4076388888934 Suggested Order:   W700

Must be preceded by these activities (list by CAID):   MIPS-950H

Place in Schedule:   Can begin after the aperture door is opened, basic MIPS functionality is checked, and after the scattered backgournd monitor is complete.

Priority:   Necessary

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 6.5 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   Yes     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 2 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 1 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration: Pointing at Galactic plane for Part 1, pointing at a star for Part 2

Go/No Go criteria: Scan mirror and array readouts must be functional.

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   48 hours

Description: Will understand scattered light levels within MIPS

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   data analysis

Success criteria: Obtain unsaturated data.

Contingency plan:  If an unusually high background is observed, an analysis of the MIPS/CTA optical path will be needed.
