Sequencer Site SIRTF IOC Activity c. 2002

CAID: MIPS-345 Title: 24um Optimum Operating Temperature

System: MIPS Principal: dlp Deputy: dmkelly, jmuzerolle
Objective:
Determine what temperature yields the best
overall
performance of the 24um array.

Description:
Dark current, responsivity, and latent image
behavior need to be characterized as a
function
of
detector operating temperature. At each of five
detector temperature settings (use same set
as
in CTA):
(1) Take 25 30-second exposures (2 cycles
small
field 24um photo AOR) with the scan mirror in
the dark position.
(2) Using the 10 second exposures, measure
a
moderately bright star using a small field
dither
pattern (1 cycle).
(3) Move the scan mirror to place the 160um
array
into the dark.
(4) Take 25 10-second exposures (3 cycles
small
field) with the 160um array to check for
scattered emission from the 24um array.

Place in Schedule:   After aperture door is opened, after MIPS first light, after temperature is stablized at 5.5 K.

Priority:   Desired

Conditions

Maximum telescope temperature: 6 K

Minimum telescope temperature: 5.5 K

Should activity be repeated if focus changes?   No     Repeat if focus changes by 0 mm

Maximum absolute pointing uncertainty: 20 arcsec (1 sigma radial)

Maximum precision offset uncertainty: 20 arcsec  (1 sigma radial)

Observatory configuration: standard

Go/No Go criteria: CE operating, CSMM nominal, temperature at stable minimum

Resources

Duration:   90 minutes

Real time downlink:   No

Data Volume (uncompressed): 250 Mbits

List Blocks, AORs, SERs, IERs, or unique sequences required (uplink): Will use dark current IER, photometry AOT

List Analysis tools required (downlink):   MIPS pipeline, image analysis tools

Outcome

Estimate of data turn around:   5 hours

Description: Best temperature setting for the 24um array will be known.

Can proceed in parallel with other activity: No

Must outcome be confirmed before next activity: No

Method of Confirmation:   data analysis

Success criteria: Temperature is successfully manipulated (i.e. heater works), CSMM works, star unsaturated, data completely downlinked. Latent images are as expected from ground tests.

Contingency plan:
